The game against Real Sociedad on San Sebastian (the place where they had their last win in 2007) was a key factor in overtaking position number 1 on La Liga table. Real Madrid lost a game versus Valencia earlier and gave a clear shot to Barcelona. Only thing needed was a win against Sociedad–still searching the right form under new manager David Moyes.
The game has just started and already in minute two, Barcelona was behind. One unlucky cross, and Alba tried to clear the ball, but instead of that he passed it behind his keeper and Real Sociedad was in the lead. From that moment, Barcelona pushed forward seeking the equalizer. In one moment ball possession was 78% in favor of Barcelona. Minute was 25′ when Pedro had a colossal chance, but his shot went just over the bar. Sociedad didn’t just defend himself, Sergio Canales had a terrific one on one chance, but Claudio Bravo managed to defend that shot.
On the half time El Haddadi went out of the game and Messi, who wasn’t in the starting eleven, took his place. Barcelona tried from the very start of the second half to jeopardize the Real Sociedad keeper, but the opponent played a defense without any errors. In the 58th minute Luis Enrique decided to shake thing up and Neymar replaced Pedro who didn’t have the solution how to score against Real Sociedad defense. Until the end of the game Real Sociedad had a great chance when Xabi Prieto failed to score. Barcelona’s only major chance was in the 88′ minute when Luis Suarez managed a good header that was defended by Rulli.
It was a great game with a lot of attractive moves, and Barcelona was a better team, but Real Sociedad put everything into their defense and in the end it has paid off. Barcelona will have to wait another chance to claim the top of La Liga table.
